Bruce and Denise Morcombe Endorse Daniel’s Law in Tasmania

Monday 26 May 2025

The Daniel Morcombe Foundation proudly supports the Tasmanian Government’s legislation to further protect children through the Community Protection (Offender Reporting) Amendment Bill 2024, known as Daniel’s Law.

This morning Bruce and Denise Morcombe joined Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management, Felix Ellis MP, in Hobart to endorse the Bill and its intent to give families access to critical information that can help keep children safe.

“Daniel’s Law puts children first,” Minister Ellis said.

“For more than 15 years, we have been advocating for parents across Australia to have the right to access critical information that could protect their children. Seeing Daniel’s Law progress in Tasmania is a significant moment for our family,” the Morcombes said.

“Daniel’s Law gives parents and guardians the ability to make informed choices. If someone with regular, unsupervised access to their child has a history of sexual offending, they have a right to know. It’s that simple,” Bruce and Denise said.

The Foundation welcomes this important step forward in child protection and community safety. Daniel’s Law is a responsible and considered initiative that prioritises the safety of children while ensuring appropriate safeguards are in place.

$3.2 million has been allocated to support the implementation of the scheme. This includes funding for five dedicated Tasmanian Police investigators.

Daniel’s Law in Tasmania will align with the schemes already operational in Western Australia and South Australia, and soon Queensland.
