On Saturday, March 15, 2025, the 20th annual Dance for Daniel transformed Brisbane City Hall into a powerful tribute to two decades of commitment to child safety and education. Hosted by the Daniel Morcombe Foundation, the sold-out gala brought together families, businesses, law enforcement, and community leaders to honour Daniel Morcombe’s legacy and raise critical funds to protect children.
Dance for Daniel 2025 was a night filled with inspiring speeches, moving tributes, live entertainment, and generous contributions. This event was more than just a celebration—it was a statement of unity and determination to continue the work of keeping kids safe.
Brisbane City Hall Illuminated in Red

As guests arrived, Brisbane City Hall glowed in striking red, symbolizing the resilience and impact of the Daniel Morcombe Foundation. The red-tie event welcomed attendees with a warm and heartfelt atmosphere, reflecting the significance of the cause.

Bruce and Denise Morcombe’s Emotional Tribute to Daniel

One of the most moving moments of the night was when Bruce and Denise Morcombe took the stage to reflect on the last 20 years of their journey.
Denise spoke about the driving force behind their work, stating, “Our journey over the last 20 years has been one filled with purpose. We were both consumed with an appetite to do all we could to keep other children safe.”
Bruce reinforced the importance of community support, saying, “On the Daniel Morcombe Foundation’s special night, I wanted to demonstrate how much we appreciate your support. The word family came to mind. You are all part of the Daniel Morcombe family.”

2025 Morky Awards: Honouring Champions of Child Safety

This year’s recipients included:
- Stephen Parr for his dedication to the success of the Walk for Daniel.
- Al Upton, solicitor and Director at Butler McDermott Lawyers, for his invaluable legal contributions to the Foundation.
- Luke Twyford, Principal Commissioner of the Queensland Family and Child Commission, for his commitment to child safety.
- Jon Rouse APM, for his ongoing advocacy and work in protecting children from harm.
- Andrew and Lindy Colebrook, Jenny and Mark Thompson, and Chrissie Rowland, who were honoured as Dance for Daniel Champions for Child Safety.
These awards highlighted the incredible dedication of those working tirelessly to protect children and support the Foundation’s initiatives.
Live and Silent Auctions Raise Crucial Funds

A major highlight of the evening was the live and silent auctions, which raised over $100,000 to support child safety education and victim support programs. Led by auctioneer Justin Veivers, guests bid on exclusive items, including:
- A diamond bracelet valued at over $20,000, generously donated by Calleija Jewellers
- A Panasonic Home Air Conditioning Package, valued at $5,000, provided by Crown Power
- A live painting created by artist Donna Gibb during the event, the audience were invited to add brush strokes to the piece during the night making it a one of a kind memoir of the evening.
The overwhelming generosity of guests demonstrated the shared commitment to the Foundation’s mission and the vital importance of its programs.

Later in the night, Australian electronic dance group The Potbelleez took the stage. Their high-energy performance, including hits like “Don’t Hold Back,” had guests on their feet, ending the event with excitement and celebration.
Looking to the Horizon

During his speech, The Premier of Queensland David Crisafulli made a commitment to bring in Daniel’s Law by the end of the year, a crucial step toward strengthening child protection laws in the state. Bruce and Denise Morcombe have long advocated for tougher measures to monitor convicted child sex offenders and believe this initiative will provide greater security for children and families.
