    Day for Daniel 2017

Today the Daniel Morcombe Foundation challenges parents, carers and educators to start a conversation with 1,000,000 young Australians about their personal safety in the real and online world.

‘Day for Daniel’ is our National Day of Action on child safety and protection.

It is the largest child safety awareness day of its type in Australia. Pre registrations online are at record levels with final numbers expected to reach 2,800 schools and hundreds of businesses and events.

Denise Morcombe says, “Fourteen years on and Daniel’s legacy is stronger than ever thanks to a record number of schools participating in our very special national child safety event-Day for Daniel.”

Bruce Morcombe adds, “Daniel is not forgotten. Australia joins with us and hugs his memory to keep kids safe.

Day for Daniel participation has reached staggering levels of support thanks to a massive wave of emotion built on a belief that we can use his tragic story in a positive way to benefit youngsters nationwide.

CEO of the Daniel Morcombe Foundation Ms Holly Brennan explains “we couldn’t be prouder of the support we receive from every day Australian’s working together with us to help all children and young people be safe. Without the support of the community we could not do the work we do.

The donations we receive on Day for Daniel fund our #KeepingKidsSafe activities for an entire year.

We know Australia think we are a big organisation, but no, we are a small group of dedicated staff, we just have a large profile because of the hard work and dedication of our Founders, Bruce and Denise.”

This year we have invited all Day for Daniel participants to join our online broadcast and make history by being part of Australia’s biggest child safety lesson. Bruce and Denise Morcombe will share strategies for students in year 3 to 6 to help promote safety. How to Recognise, React and Report unsafe situations is included in the lesson.

The live broadcast is 9.15am-9.45am (QLD) AEST 10.15am-10.45am (NSW, VIC, ACT, TAS) AEDT on Friday 27 October. To check the broadcast time in your location or to watch the lesson later in the day visit our website.

We have 20 free child safety videos and activities to suit a diverse range of students from prep to senior levels.

Teachers have access to teacher guides to support classroom delivery and parent/carer resources are available to encourage discussions about personal safety at home.
The 13th Annual ‘Day for Daniel’ will be held on Friday 27th October 2017.

It is about educating children through child safety and protection initiatives and helping empower our children to ‘Recognise, React and Report’ if they feel something is not right.

Wear Red, Educate and Donate is the theme of “Day for Daniel” as we strive to enable schools, kindergartens, businesses and communities across Australia take action and conduct child safety activities in their communities to help Keep Kids Safe.
